Every plan backs up your files, databases and email automatically. You can download any copy or restore it from your dashboard.

How often, and for how long

  • Starter: a backup every Sunday. The four most recent copies are kept.
  • Pro and Business: a backup every day, kept for 14 days. You can also create a backup yourself at any time, at no charge.

Starter sites can upgrade to daily backups, or buy a one-time extra backup, from the Backups page. Pro and Business already include both, so there is nothing to add. See the plans page for current details.

Download a backup

  1. Open Backups in your dashboard.
  2. Find the copy you want in the list.
  3. Choose the download option for that copy.

Keep an extra copy somewhere safe before a big change, such as a redesign or a plugin update.

Restore a backup

  1. Open Backups in your dashboard.
  2. Choose the copy you want to go back to, and start the restore.
  3. Wait a few minutes. The dashboard tells you when the restore has been queued, and it usually finishes within a few minutes.

A restore replaces your current site with the copy you chose. Anything you changed after that backup was taken is lost. If you are not sure, download a copy of the current site first.

Good to know

  • Backups protect against mistakes and failures. They are not a reason to skip your own copy of anything you cannot afford to lose, such as your original design files.
  • If a restore does not give you what you expected, open a support ticket from your dashboard and tell us which copy you restored and what you see.
